I look back now at some of my paintings in the sixties, and they're almost more contemporary today than they were then. And they still inspire me in work that I do now.
The reason I love painting is because I've had so many other jobs, if you want to call them that career and all this other thing. And this is what makes me smile, and this is what's me, and this is what makes me happy. So I have something to compare it to.
If you hear a rule, you should break it. That's my feeling. Probably the paintings that I admire the most that other artists make are things that are coming from deep inside them.
