There's a certain discipline in letting yourself loosen up in the process. And when I was able to finally do that, and that takes a lot of practice and time, but that's when I was like, 'Okay, this feels like me. This feels like this is my work and I can really figure out something that is mine in a sense.'

I always try to do it outside if I can, because doing architecture, I spend most of my time indoors.

Pediatric heart surgery is in the scheme of medical treatments relatively young. We've only been practicing modern pediatric cardiac surgery probably for the last 30 years and over the last probably 15 years, we've really refined our outcomes.
