Thoughtful conversations with the people of Maine

When you're making figurative work, it feels abstract. Maybe the figurative part is in developing the gesture and the pose, the dynamic aspect of life. I seem to do that a lot, trying to put a little bit of fhu into it, a little bit of curve asymmetry.

I think that's something that's amazing about the visual arts or any performing arts is that those people are making, with regularity, making themselves vulnerable to public audiences everywhere.

I think we have it backwards about age in our society. The people that I look up to in our gallery are in their seventies. Their careers, it's taken a lot. It takes a long time to get your career to a place like that. So I'm looking forward to getting older.
